Jeff Niederdeppe wins Research and Extension Award

Jeff Niederdeppe received the 2019 CALS Research and Extension Award for Outstanding Accomplishments in Science and Public Policy. The award “recognizes an individual who has demonstrated innovation and leadership by integrating science-based knowledge into public policy and management.” The award committee noted that Jeff’s work exemplifies the criteria with his focus on “health issues of critical national and global concern” and “strong public policy engagement.”

Jon Schuldt wins Cornell Engaged Curriculum Grant

Jon Schuldt received a Cornell Engaged Curriculum Grant to support his course, Taking America’s Pulse (Govt/Comm 3189). The course pairs students with community partner organizations to create and conduct a national-level survey to help partners meet their strategic goals. He is PI on the grant, which includes Peter Enns (Government), Stephanie Slate (Cornell University Survey Research Institute), and the Environmental Defense Fund.

Lee Humphreys receives Institute for the Social Sciences grant

Lee Humphreys received an ISS grant for a cross-college Qualitative Methods Working Group. The goals of this working group are to increase the coordination and collaboration among Cornell faculty who teach, employ, and develop qualitative research methods; increase the visibility and awareness of qualitative methodological opportunities among the social sciences at Cornell; and enhance the social science qualitative research methods training at Cornell. Bringing together scholars from such disciplines as Anthropology, Communication, Development Sociology, Policy Analysis & Management, STS, Sociology, and City & Regional Planning, the Qualitative Methods Working Group will create a space for interpretive social scientists to build community and share resources across Cornell.
