Senior Advisor for Campaign Operations, Alumni Affairs and Development, Cornell University
Jim Mazza’s professional career has spanned more than thirty years in a wide variety of leadership roles in higher-education alumni engagement and philanthropy. As Associate Vice President of Alumni Affairs at Cornell, he led a team of fifty staff members whose efforts engaged nearly 100,000 alumni annually. He strengthened staff and program support for a number of growing alumni populations, with particular commitment to young, diverse, and international alumni.
Earlier, as AVP for Colleges and Units, Jim worked closely with Cornell’s provost and deans to develop campaign plans for the university’s record-breaking $6.3 billion Cornell Now! Campaign. Previously, he coordinated fundraising initiatives for several university-wide priorities, including three multi-million-dollar science facilities—Weill Hall, Duffield Hall, and the Laboratory of Ornithology. Jim began phased retirement in July 2018 and continues to serve Cornell as a Senior Advisor for Campaign Operations.
An Ithaca native, Jim has been involved with many community non-profit organizations in Upstate New York and beyond. With Bess Mennen Dailey ’39, he founded the Hangar Theatre’s teen-education program, “The Next Generation.” He is past president of the Kitchen Theatre Company’s Board of Directors. Jim earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication from Cornell in 1988. An avid amateur pianist and photographer, Jim travels through life with his wife, Nancy Osborn.
