If you are looking to learn more about Communication Industry careers, connect with Communication Young Alumni, review career tips from alumni, or even see the journeys of some of our current students, check out the NEW COMMCareerLink. This site was designed for Cornell Department of Communication majors and is both a gathering place for career information across campus as well as information specific from Communication alumni and students. Students should explore career services through the Cornell Career Services and CALS Career Services Centers.
Coffee Chats in the Hub
Our new home in the Mann Library Building created an amazing opportunity for our students and alumni to connect. Coffee Chats are smaller informal information sessions presented by our alumni and happen as we hear about alumni coming back to campus. Let us know if you are visiting campus and we can set up a Coffee Chat that would allow our students to learn from your experience from our major to your current position.
Annual Young Alumni Madness
Starting in Fall 2014 during Homecoming Weekend, a group of Cornell Communication alumni connect with current students through the Young Alumni Madness. This event allows our current students to meet young alumni from various careers and gain advice regarding internships, the job application process, and future careers. This year's Young Alumni Madness will be held on Friday, September 23rd at 2:00pm. Free Pizza!
COMMConnect, See you degree in action
Each spring, the Communication Alumni Advisory Board members return to campus to get to know and inspire current Communication students. During this event, alumni spend time reviewing student resumes and providing advice on the job search process on a one-on-one basis. Students and alumni are divided into smaller groups and throughout the afternoon, they work through real world case studies. Ultimately the groups present their ideas and solutions to the entire group and the alumni that brought the case study forward. This event is a wonderful opportunity to Communication students to connect to someone in their desired career field. This year's event will be held on Friday, March 24th! More information to come.
NYCOMM Seminar & Networking Trip
In spring 2016, the Department took a group of twelve Communication students to NYC for a two-day industry and networking trip. The goal of this trip is to provide Communication majors the opportunity to connect with alumni and companies in their area of interest. During the two day trip, students will tour leading media, public relations, and news organizations while interacting with some of the leaders of each field.
Our generous alumni are the reason that this program was restarted after more than ten years and why each student can attend without any concerns for the cost of the program. Thank you to the alumni who provided this opportunity for our student and for those who take their time to meet with us during our visit.
This trip was so successful in spring 2016 that we have decided to add a course component to the trip. Prior to our trip to NYC, students will meet and hear from alumni who we will visit via Skype. This will allow our time in the city to be more productive. This fall we will be going to NYC from October 16-18 and visiting Nintendo, M Booth, SocialCode, NBCUniversal and the United Nations. Students will also have the opportunity to engage with alumni and employers at an intimate student-alumni networking reception. Video wrap-up from Spring 2016 trip.
