COVID-19 Update for 2020-2021 Academic Year:
For the academic year of 2020-2021 only: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic impacting the Department of Communication’s class sizes and preventing non-Communication majors from enrolling in COMM 1101 during Fall 2020, the department has revised its transfer requirements for this year only.
Students may apply to the Communication major once they have taken or are enrolled in COMM 2820, the student’s choice of one of the following classes (COMM 2200, 2450, 2760, or 2850), and any third COMM class of the student’s choice.
Please note that any student admitted to the major under these circumstances (i.e. without having taken COMM 1101) will still need to take COMM 1101 prior to graduation in order fulfill the major. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Undergraduate Program Coordinator for the Department of Communication, Heather Crespin (email@example.com); they will be able to answer your questions.
Current Cornell CALS Students
All transfer applications are reviewed by the
Communication Undergraduate Curriculum Committee.
It is required that students complete COMM 1101; COMM 2820; and either COMM 2450, COMM 2760, COMM 2850 or COMM 2200 prior to applying. COMM 1101 & COMM 2820 are ONLY offered in fall. Students are allowed to turn in an application ONLY after their grades are posted for the three required courses. Competitive applications include a minimum cumulative Cornell GPA of 2.5 and a B+ average across the three courses.
Current Cornell, Non-CALS
Students who are interested in transferring to the Department of Communication from another college at Cornell should read the information on the CALS Admissions page for Internal Transfer applications. Students are REQUIRED to meet with Heather Crespin (the Undergraduate Program Coordinator for the Department of Communication) to discuss their application and fill out the Internal Transfer Department Contact Form. Please email Heather Crespin to set up an appointment. If desired, students are welcome to make an appointment with the Office of Internal Transfer to discuss the process and application (this is not a requirement). The Office of Internal Transfer will provide you with the application deadline (generally the last day of classes).
(Please note that the application in the section above is ONLY for those students current in a CALS major.)
